Shading is what creates three dimensions. And if you look closely at any object, the shade and light is there to see. Sometimes if you squint your eyes, it becomes more obvious. If you can recreate the shade and light that is there, suddenly you will see 3 dimensions in your drawing, "jump out at you", literally! It is an exciting moment, when it happens.
